Postmodernity (also spelled post-modernity or termed the postmodern condition) is generally used to describe the economic or cultural state or condition of society which is said to exist after modernity. Some schools of thought hold that modernity ended in the late 20th century, in the 1980s or early 1990s replaced by postmodernity, while others would extend modernity to cover the developments denoted by postmodernity, while some believe that modernity ended after World War II.
Postmodernity can mean a personal response to a postmodern society, the conditions in a society which make it postmodern or the state of being that is associated with a postmodern society. In most contexts it should be distinguished from post modernism, the conscious, unconscious and/or subconscious adoption of postmodern philosophies or traits in art, literature, culture and society.

Kick-Ass is edging on hyperality- Comic book geeks turned vigilantes make their superhero fantasies a bloody reality in this dark action-comedy.
Kick-Ass is postmodern because it constructs itself in so many different ways, and some of them are mutually contradictory. This film is trying to do a lot of things at once and the success of this film is contingent upon the success or failure of the others.  It is a action movie with lots of quick choreography, gory fight scenes and lots of melodramatic speeches, however in this film it is also a concept movie. , Kick-Ass tries to construct a comic book universe that’s highly self-aware, wrapping it in some conventions that move toward realism (brutality, references to current events, the cynicism of the first half), and in other conventions that intentionally move toward self-conscious stylization. One of the subtexts of the “deconstructive” aspect of Kick-Ass is its statement on the “reality” of crime and the vigilante lifestyle Kick-Ass’s in cohesive aesthetic could be seen as a merit or a flaw.  Does the movie sabotage itself by setting up some expectations for “concept” and then betraying them for the sake of cheap thrills.

Tim Burton

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/oct/07/tim-burton-frankenweenie-interview?intcmp=ILCMUSTXT9390

This week I looked at an article regarding Tim Burton a  very acclaimed director, it talks about his childhood and how he was never satisfied during his childhood. This was interesting to me because it shows that to direct it shows passion and dedication and also with driving force. I feel that Tim Burton is successful in being creative and touching audiences hearts because he for fills the gratification of escapism and potentially satisfying other adults that have had less fortunate childhoods. As they can relate to the stories and characters he creates.

Muhammad film: Israeli director goes into hiding after protests

In this article it talks about An Israeli film-maker based in California has gone into hiding after his film attacking the prophet Muhammad sparked angry assaults by ultra-conservative Muslims on US missions in Egypt and Libya, claiming the life of one American. It is a political movie two-hour movie about the Innocence of Muslims. It cost $5m (£3.1m) to make and was financed with the help of more than 100 Jewish donors. The full film had been shown once, to a mostly empty cinema in Hollywood, earlier this year. I felt this article was very interesting as it was only shown once to a empty cinema but was able to provoke such a riot. This shows that films can be powerful, exhibited or not and it can be very sensitive to people.

This week I looked at the website empire online to look atwhat is happening this week in the film industry.  The Possession managed to stay atop the US box office, earning $9.5 million. Infront of the Expendables and the Bourne Legacy. I felt this was important because the story of this film has been done many times with a exorcist theme. I felt that even though films have been regurgitated many times it can still be successful because the audience are no longer looking for gripping and unique stories but just want to be entertained. However this can be worrying because the audience are no longer active and it may be that only Hollywood films will be able to make money and independent films will struggle to get an audience.

I also found that Daniel Craig notorious for his role as Bond will return to his part for atleast 2 more titles. This is important because of his appeal to fans and audiences demand to see him as Bond and again the ability of Hollywood productions to draw an audience in through passive entertainment.

This article talks about how mobile advertising has hit 500 million this year and 4 years ago it struggled to hit 25 million. This shows that technology and demand fro the consumer has changed. It talks about how mobile display is now become more optimistic and things such as improving graphics will be made to suit a smaller screen.

this article talks about how taken 2 has grossed more over a weekend than its predesser. However its storyline, cinematography was not credited but because of the reason they lowered the age rating. This shows that although some films rather be credited for its depth and cinematography some films will lower rating just to be 'box office' successfull.
